British Airways is the United Kingdom’s flag carrier and part of International Airlines Group. The BA network operates from London Heathrow, Gatwick, City and Stansted. Its aircraft range from Airbus A320-family jets and BA Cityflyer’s Embraer 190s to Boeing 777s and 787s, Airbus A350s and the double-deck A380.

On BA-operated flights, you can choose seats when booking or afterwards in Manage My Booking. Advance selection may cost extra, depending on your fare, cabin and frequent-flyer status. Selection is normally free when check-in opens 24 hours before departure; Basic fares instead receive an allocated seat, with a charge to choose another. Seats can change for operational, safety or security reasons, even after boarding.
You must be over 12, willing and physically able to help in an evacuation, and able to understand English safety instructions. BA also excludes pregnant passengers and passengers with accessibility needs or substantial sight or hearing loss from exit-row seating. BA checks eligibility and can assign another seat if the requirements are not met; review the full criteria before paying.
BA aims to seat families together, but this may mean adjacent rows or seats across the aisle. Each child under 12 will sit next to an adult on the same booking; older children may sit separately. When travelling with an infant under two on your lap, seat selection is free for everyone on the same booking, up to a party of nine. Carrycot positions are subject to availability.
After booking, use Manage My Booking to request assistance; BA asks for at least 48 hours’ notice. A disability-related seating requirement may qualify you for free seat selection once you have requested assistance. You can usually then select a suitable seat in Manage My Booking, although some arrangements require contacting BA.
For adults and children with their own seat on British Airways, BA Cityflyer and BA Euroflyer, the standard allowance is one small bag up to 40 × 30 × 15 cm and one cabin bag up to 56 × 45 × 25 cm, including its wheels and handles. The small bag must fit under the seat in front; the larger bag may have to travel in the hold. Keep essentials in the smaller bag. Partner-operated flights can have different allowances.
BA does not carry pets in the cabin. For pet transport to or from the UK, it directs customers to PetAir UK or IAG Cargo, depending on the direction of travel. Assistance dogs that meet BA’s requirements can travel in the cabin free of charge on most BA flights. Emotional support dogs are treated as pets and cannot travel in the cabin.
