This seat is rear facing. if the flight attendant is seated in the galley, and turns on the reading light, it casts a directed light towards your seat, particularly if you are reclining. It's like trying to sleep with a spotlight beaming at you. I suppose you can put on an eye mask. This is just a quirky design flaw.
✅ Trip Verified | My flight Chicago to Newarkwas delayed for more than 2 hours. After take off for 10 minutes, the captain announced that the plane had a fuel leakage and we were turning back to ORD. We had to deplane for an inspection. As a replacement aircraft needed to be located, the flight was delayed for another 3 hours. We boarded the replacement plane. After the boarding procedure was complete, the captain announced the right front tire needed to be replaced and we needed to deplane again. After we go off, the flight got delayed for another 3 hours to 9pm. At this point, I have had enough with this ridiculous nonsense, so I rebooked my flight to AA 1652. AA 1652 delayed to 7:25pm. It was originally scheduled for 6:30pm. The ground staff at the gate said she would inform me if my checked baggage made it onto this flight after everyone had boarded, but she NEVER got back to me. Very irresponsible. When I got to LGA, the ground staff first told me my bag was on the plane, but later on said it was still on AA 1834 to Newark as my bag never appeared on the baggage belt. They informed me that the baggage could be delivered throughout the night, so I provided them with my hotel address. After AA 1834 landed, I called the AA baggage hotline and they told me the complete opposite. They said the baggage will have to be delivered the next day. I have had enough of this nonsense and I needed my suitcase the next day for an important meeting, so I took an UBER to pick up the baggage myself. When I picked up my baggage, the zipper was open and taped together loosely with AA tape. I've been using this suitcase for more than 3 years and this is the FIRST TIME it has popped open with the zipper head still locked. I wonder how in the world AA handled my baggage. I sent a complaint to AA to be compensated for my two UBER rides. The first one to my hotel (as I assumed my baggage would be delivered to me) and the UBER round-trip to pick up my luggage. I also asked to be compensated for the 10 hour delay. I was originally suppose to be in Newark by 3:14pm, but I ended up getting to New York at 10:56pm and having to pick up my luggage at 1:39am in the morning. I did not sleep till 4am. AA is a stingy airline and only compensated me with a $100 transportation voucher. I have had the worst ever possible experience on AA.
✅ Trip Verified | Miami to Pensacola. Flight was canceled due to weather. They made us wait more than 20 hours for the next flight (originally was going to be about 26 hours) and they did not provide us any type of accommodation. We had to sleep in the airport floor. When it was finally time to leave we had issues yet again. They almost did not let us board and they ended up taking people out of the plane to let us in. (We had priority since we had reserved our seats and they were stand by). Horrible experience. I understand it's not the airline fault that the weather was bad, but the least they can do its provide us with a place to sleep since we had to wait a while day to be able to leave. Also the people that were stand by had been in the same flight at us and have been waiting the same amount of time and they made them leave the plane after seating them down.
✅ Trip Verified | The seats were comfy, the cabins were cool temp and the inflight entertainment was very good. That's about all the positive things I can say about American Airlines. We had 4 flights throughout our vacation and every one was over booked by a least 5 people delaying the on boarding time 30 minutes at a minimum. You purchase a specific seat on American! How can you over book! Then after we boarded our 7.05am flight from Dallas to St. Louis we sat on the plane for 3 hours because of some instruments misreading numbers. They informed us there was a problem and that we would leave in about 30 min almost immediately after boarding. Great, except 2 hours later we were still sitting there an no one would give us any information and they we not letting us off. Finally left the airport at 10.00am. Lastly, we were not offered food on the 6 hour flight from LAX to Hawaii, and the food we were offered on our 7 hour flight from Hawaii to Dallas was slimy and not even remotely appetizing.
I am broad shouldered and 188cm or 6ft 2 inches. My knees touched the seat in front. My shoulder was pressed against the fuselage of the plane for 12.5 hours. There is no window beside the recline of the seat,. The window areas are recessed, and this allows for more shoulder room in some seats. You can see out of the window in front, so the view is not a problem. After travelling to about 80 countries this comes as one of my least fondest experiences.
Truly terrible seat. The bulkhead panel is straight from the floor to the ceiling - no bend in the panel for leg room. But the panel separating the tiny first-class section to the premier-economy section has a bend to allow an extra foot of leg-room. The 8D bulkhead seat is actually a better seat than the 1D. I was upgraded to 1D and I sat in the seat and found even less leg room than in the back of the bus. I gave up that seat and returned to my previously assigned seat, 10D. It was a much better experience. Maybe a tiny person would like 1D but anyone with regular-sized legs would be infuriated to have paid extra for this seat.
✅ Trip Verified | San Jose Cabo to Tampa via Dallas with American Airlines. My wife and I spent two days waiting to get out of Mexico and was told the day of cancelation that the plane had mechanical issues and was told a new plane would come in the following day which never happened. Put on stand by and did not get out until the following day, my wife and I both missed 2 days of work and lost 50 pounds of fish. When I call American I was told it was weather which was not a true statement, the rep could not care less and when I asked to speak to her supervisor she stated she did not have one.
Not Verified | Was on a 12.20 flight from Philadelphia to Phoenix. It’s almost 5 pm now and I am still sitting in PHL. Finally changed planes after 3 plus hours of “evaluating” the engine problem. Airlines need to be quicker to react. Now we might see further delays due to weather. What a nightmare American Airlines!
I flew in Seat 6A, and husband in 6D from Chicago to Rome and then Rome to Chicago recently. The bulkhead seats in the Premium Economy cabin were fantastic. We didn't feel confined and I commented that I didn't feel like I was flying. I was able to get out of 6A and us the restroom without disturbing my husband in 6D. You can hear a very light noise when the toilet flushes in front, but nothing that was disturbing. We had no issues with anyone lingering by the restroom either since there was a galley right there. We were able to use the restrooms directly in front of us as well as the ones in the very back. However the galley directly in front of us was reserved for business passengers only with upgraded snacks. We had pretzels only in our galley for snacks. Service was top notch from our flight crew.
Pros: You'll have legroom for miles, and the space is also easier to stand up/move around in. Cons: It's one of the narrower seats I have encountered on a plane. I don't know if that's the way all the seats in the aisle are; my partner was in 11A and he did not comment on it. Both the media screen and the tray fold out of some portion of the armrest and using both together feels so awkward. There is no under-seat storage because there is a large box that covers your seat and extends halfway across 11A and 11C.11A and 11C do both have under-seat storage, if truncated. There's also no direct overhead storage so you'll have to just find a spot in one of the other overhead bins and grab it before someone else does. The FA did help with this on our flight and even entering in Group 9, we were able to find spaces. Other Notes: The media screen folds out from between the seats and is easy to use, once you've figured out where the button release is (it's on the side of your armrest). 11A has a good view out the window.
Seats are narrow but not oppressively so (I am short and plus-sized). Leg-room was great, more than enough to stretch legs out comfortably. I didn't notice anything strange with the arm-rests, aside from your tray folds out of them. Didn't notice anything strange about the framework of the plane, either. The media screen in the seatback ahead of me proved to require a bit of a stretch to reach. View out of the window was great.
I hear a lot of hate for seats by the back of the plane but honestly, this wasn't bad at all. I found the seat comfortable -- moreso than the Preferred and MCE seats that I had on other flights. My partner didn't agree so YMMV. Legroom is okay (I am 5' 6" and my partner is 5'10"). View out the window is great. FAs sat in the row behind us and I could eavesdrop on their conversations (nothing bad, just interesting!) FAs on this trip were also the nicest.
The worst flight I've been on so far. The seats are a bit narrow. Legroom probably would have been all right had the FAs not insisted that we take off all satchels and purses and stow them under the seats as well. I have never had to do this on any other flight and on the flight I took -after- this we did not have to do it. Doing so meant there was no room for your feet. By the time we landed my knee was in agony. To add insult to injury the window is misaligned. This is a 'preferred' grade seat that I was assigned flying Basic Economy.
✅ Trip Verified | Miami to New York. Most Horrible experience ever. More than 4 hour delay because you loss your flight crew is unacceptable. First you keep us almost two hours on flight waiting, then you take us out, tell us you lost the pilot and we need to wait, the you say you found pilot but lost flight attendants. Can you people get it together. To be such a big airline, you do provide the least reliable service. AA also refused to compensate you for anything.
Not Verified | I have flown with all the major airlines since 1958 and I must say that without a doubt I must rank American Airlines in the top 3. This was demonstrated on a recent flight to Florida, I required wheelchair assistance and the service was provided with a spirit of excellence. During the flight I had a stroke and the cabin attendant found a nurse that came and gave the medication to aid in a speedy recovery. Your team insured that my medical problem was handled in the manner possible. I know that airlines have had a ot of negative comments about service, but you have proved them wrong. Thank you for great service and I will seeing you again next flying to Chicago.
Not Verified | American Airlines is horrible, both the trip out to the west coast and the trip back had problems. On our 5+ hour flight from O’Hare to California we had paid extra money for more legroom and complimentary drinks, our flight from Moline to O’Hare was changed and so we were given alternate tickets for the O’Hare-San Diego leg which didn’t include what we paid for. On the way home AA changed our gate multiple times in O’Hare making us move from G gates to K gates and by the time we arrived at the K gate they had switched us back to a G gate. I will never fly American Airlines again.
4H is an aisle seat in the middle on the right side of the plane. It's forward facing and is further away from 4D than the backward facing seats. I was traveling with someone and you had to lean forward to talk to them. Backward facing seats are better for those traveling together. American changed their menu on June 1st and everything was delicious. Roasted Chicken, Lamb, Chicken Fajita Sandwich. Would recommend 8/10.
The bulkhead does NOT interfere with full seat pitch. Plenty of room. This is true for all of row 11 premium economy. I have flown in this row four times from LAX to AKL. It is true that Air New Zealand Premium has an extra 3 inches of pitch but timely shopping on American Airlines can get Premium for substantially less than Air New Zealand.
✅ Trip Verified | Nashville to Bismarck via Dallas Ft Worth. Easily the worst airline experience I’ve had. On my flight out, I was delayed for unknown reasons so much that I missed my connection and was stranded overnight in Dallas. The airline refused to help me reroute despite my best attempts. I know things happen and I was put up in a hotel so I wasn’t too upset about it. However, 2 days later on my return flight, it was again delayed so much that I missed my connection and was forced to stay overnight in Dallas again. Once again, no assistance or attempt to make the situation right. This time, I wasn’t even offered a hotel. I’m not sure how this joke of a company still has any customers but I’m sure they won’t last much longer if they continue to treat passengers this way.
✅ Trip Verified | I am flying from Jackson to El Paso. I got fly connection in Fort Worth I suppose to get to El Paso at 11:49 and I still waiting at 7:25 they make everybody wait all this time “over 9 hours with out telling us that the fly will be canceled. We went to costumer service “about 150 people “ to see what’s next and they offer us a fly until Tuesday “today it’s Sunday". Now the best they can do is putting all that people on stand by expecting some other people don’t show up so they can send us to El Paso. I am so disappointed, I just remember they offer to pay just a half of the hotel “but is not our fault “.
